A 21-year-old Maraval man was captured by police hours after he and another man stole a soldier's car at gunpoint on Monday afternoon.
Police said the 40-year-old Lance Cpl was working part-time as a taxi driver when he picked up a customer on Pashley Street, Laventille, around 2.30 pm.
The customer asked the driver to pick up a friend on Cameron Road, Maraval.
After picking up the second passenger, the driver drove onto La Finette Road, but told both men that he wouldn't be going any further.
One of the men got out of the car and pulled out an AR-15 from a blue duffel bag he was carrying, before ordering the driver out of the car.
The driver was pistol-whipped and had his hands tied together with tie straps.
The driver ran away from his attackers as he heard two gunshots behind him.
Passers-by helped the victim and took him to the Maraval Police Station, where he made a report.
Two hours later, officers of the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF), who were on patrol on Charlotte Street near a grocery saw the stolen car and intercepted it.
The driver was arrested and is expected to be questioned today.
