Suspects in Belmont acid attack in custody, no charges yet

Two women who were sought as sus­pects in an acid at­tack have sur­ren­dered to po­lice, but have not been charged as of Tues­day morn­ing.

Po­lice said the women, ages 20 and 26-years-old sur­ren­dered to Bel­mont Po­lice on Mon­day af­ter­noon with their at­tor­ney.

The women were iden­ti­fied as sus­pects in an at­tack on 21-year-old hair­dress­er Jessie James.

James, was re­port­ed­ly con­tact­ed by a stranger who asked her to vis­it her at her home in Bel­mont for a hair­styling ap­point­ment.

How­ev­er, on reach­ing Brath­waite Lane, James was con­front­ed by two women who ac­cused her of so­cial­is­ing with men they knew.

One of the women re­port­ed­ly snatched James’ phone be­fore dous­ing her with acid, re­sult­ing in se­vere chem­i­cal burns.

As of 10 am on Tues­day, both sus­pects re­mained in cus­tody and were ex­pect­ed to be in­ter­viewed by in­ves­ti­ga­tors.

If charged, both women may face charges of as­sault with in­tent to cause griev­ous bod­i­ly harm.
