The Trinidad and To­ba­go Sol­id Waste Man­age­ment Com­pa­ny Lim­it­ed (SWM­COL) says a fire which start­ed around 5pm yes­ter­day at the south­ern tip of the land­fill has been con­tained.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Sol­id Waste Man­age­ment Com­pa­ny Lim­it­ed ad­vis­es that the blaze at the Beetham Land­fill Site has been con­tained. Ac­cord­ing to re­ports the fire start­ed at ap­prox­i­mate­ly 5 pm on the Wednes­day 6th, April,2022 at the south­ern tip of the Land­fill Site.

Air qual­i­ty tests con­duct­ed by SWM­COL’s En­vi­ron­men­tal Of­fi­cers in the down­town and sur­round­ing ar­eas in­di­cate a 25% re­duc­tion in smoke, a fur­ther re­duc­tion is ex­pect­ed as the day pro­gress­es. The com­pa­ny re­minds res­i­dents of the sur­round­ing ar­eas and com­muters, par­tic­u­lar­ly those with res­pi­ra­to­ry con­di­tions to pro­ceed with cau­tion.
