A 73-year-old Tabaquite pensioner was found dead on his bed last evening. His Piparo Road home had been ransacked.
There were no visible marks of violence on the body of Lutchmipersad Sookram, but his death is being treated as a suspected homicide.
Sookram's son left him home around 6 am to go to work in Penal. When he returned home around 6:30 pm he noticed the house had been ransacked.
He then saw his father's body lying face down on a bed. Sookram's right hand was behind his back. He alerted the neighbours and the police were contacted.
Sookram's son was not sure whether anything was missing. The body was removed to a funeral home pending a post-mortem at the Forensic Science Centre.
Southern Division crime scene investigators processed the scene and investigations are continuing.
