A 17-year-old boy who was held on Saturday with a high-powered rifle and a quantity of ammunition in Sangre Grande is currently assisting police with investigations.
He was arrested during an anti-gang operation.
According to police, at 6.30 pm on Saturday, officers executed a search warrant at a house in North Eastern Settlement.
During the raid, officers from the Eastern Divisional Gang and Intelligence Unit allegedly found one black AR-15 equipped with one magazine, 21 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, 50 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition and one drum magazine containing a quantity of nine-millimetre ammunition in the accused’s bedroom.
The teen was arrested and taken into police custody as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident in Fyzabad, a PH taxi driver was arrested after police found him in possession of a firearm, a magazine and a quantity of ammunition.
According to police reports, at 11.10 am on Saturday, officers of the South-Western Division Task Force were on an exercise along Mulchan Trace, Fyzabad, when they observed a man with a black pouch acting suspiciously.
Upon seeing the officers, he allegedly began running.
The officers chased down the suspect and subsequently detained him in a nearby bushy area.
He was searched and police allegedly found and seized one black and silver Sig Sauer pistol fitted with a magazine containing ten rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition.
The firearm and ammunition are currently being processed by crime scene experts and investigations are ongoing.
