A 14-year-old boy remained in a stable condition at the hospital after being shot by his cousin as the two were playing with a gun they found.
The two boys reportedly found the firearm in a forested area at Cake Lands, La Canoa Road, Santa Cruz, and were pretending to shoot one another when the incident occurred.
Officers of the Santa Cruz CID and North Eastern Division Task Force responded to reports of a shooting in the area, around 9.30 am on Friday.
The 14-year-old was shot in the lower left leg.
The officers took the teenager to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where he was receiving medical attention.
Officers later recovered a shotgun and one 12-gauge cartridge casing.
The victim, along with his father, was later interviewed by lawmen at the hospital.
