The Young-Kerry meeting

Trinidad and To­ba­go’s plans to iden­ti­fy and re­duce its methane emis­sions, and its plans to em­ploy re­new­able en­er­gy in the coun­try’s elec­tric­i­ty grid were among top­ics of dis­cus­sion be­tween Min­is­ter of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries Stu­art R Young MP and US Spe­cial Pres­i­den­tial En­voy for Cli­mate, John Ker­ry (for­mer Sec­re­tary of State, USA) in Los An­ge­les on Wednes­day.

A re­lease is­sued by the Min­istry stat­ed that Min­is­ter Young shared with Spe­cial En­voy Ker­ry, T&T’s progress with Project Lara and the 112.2 MW to be pro­duced via so­lar en­er­gy.  He al­so point­ed to T&T’s in­ten­tion to pur­sue more so­lar pow­er op­por­tu­ni­ties, as well as stud­ies be­ing done on the fea­si­bil­i­ty of wind gen­er­at­ed pow­er.

Both men al­so dis­cussed Trinidad and To­ba­go’s agree­ment to sign the Glob­al Methane Pledge, and its plans to iden­ti­fy and re­duce its methane emis­sions.

Spe­cial En­voy Ker­ry in­di­cat­ed a will­ing­ness to have fur­ther dis­cus­sion, through his of­fice with Min­is­ter Young and T&T Gov­ern­ment, to de­ter­mine what sup­port could be pro­vid­ed on these ini­tia­tives, be­gin­ning with tech­ni­cal as­sis­tance.

Min­is­ter Young cur­rent­ly is in Los An­ge­les as part of the del­e­ga­tion—head­ed by Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Row­ley MP—at­tend­ing the IX Sum­mit of the Amer­i­ca’s.
