The Water and Sewerage Authority has strongly condemned the recent acts of vandalism and theft targeting its infrastructure in the Gasparillo area, which have severely disrupted water supply to several residents.

In a statement yesterday, WASA said between March 31 and April 1, over 34 residential connections in San Fabian, Rawlings Avenue, Recreation Ground, PRV Goodman Trace, Bhagwansingh Trace, and Springland’s Third and Fourth Streets were vandalised, with brass fittings and service lines stolen.

It said these criminal acts left affected customers without a reliable water supply, forcing the authority to prioritise emergency repairs while supporting police investigations.

The statement said during inspections, WASA personnel discovered a pipe-cutting device on Bhagwansingh Road, which has been handed over to the Gasparillo Police and the Forensic Department for analysis.

WASA said it is working closely with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) to ensure those responsible face the full brunt of the law. “These reckless acts not only inconvenience customers but also divert critical resources from servicing legitimate needs. We urge the public to report any suspicious activity near WASA infrastructure to the police or our Customer Contact Centre at 800-4420/4426.”

WASA reassured customers that repairs were underway and thanked the community for their patience. WASA said it remained committed to safeguarding its assets and ensuring equitable service.
