Thousands turn out for incident-free Chaguanas J'Ouvert

We Dut­ty Hush Naughty and Nice, a pre­sen­ta­tion of Em­bling O’Gar­ro is the 2023 Ch­agua­nas J’Ou­vert band of the Year. The band al­so won the Large Band of the Year ti­tle. Plac­ing sec­ond in the Large Band cat­e­go­ry was Colours Erupt, a pre­sen­ta­tion of La Pen­ca En­ter­tain­ment and I Can­dy’s Jam 2023 placed third. The Small Band cat­e­go­ry was won by The Es­cape De­lad­ed a pre­sen­ta­tion of Red Army J’Ou­vert. In sec­ond place was Wet is Wet, a pre­sen­ta­tion of DJ Voom Voom and third, It Call­ing Me, a pre­sen­ta­tion of Re­hab J’Ou­vert.

The King and Queen of the Bands went to The Spir­it of J'Ou­vert and Queen of Colours re­spec­tive­ly from the band J’Ou­vert Junkies.

Chair­man of the Ch­agua­nas Car­ni­val Com­mit­tee Re­nee Bai­ley said this year’s cel­e­bra­tions were in­ci­dent free. Bai­ley said there was a large turnout of of­fi­cers from the T&T Po­lice Force and T&T De­fence Force to en­sure that the area was safe and se­cure. She said J’Ou­vert was cel­e­brat­ed in ho­n­our of mas man Phillip Jor­dan who died last year.

Wet Is Wet was the first band to cross the stage around 5.44 am. The event saw 11 bands cross­ing the stage at Ram­saran Street and thou­sands of spec­ta­tors gath­er­ing along the side of the road to look on.
