A sus­pect want­ed by the po­lice was ar­rest­ed and a firearm and am­mu­ni­tion seized dur­ing in­tel­li­gence-led po­lice op­er­a­tions in La Ro­maine over two days, as the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS) in­ten­si­fied an­ti-crime ex­er­cis­es across the South­ern and South West­ern Di­vi­sions.

In a state­ment is­sued yes­ter­day, po­lice said the op­er­a­tion was con­duct­ed around 5.10 am on Fri­day. Of­fi­cers as­signed to the San Fer­nan­do Po­lice Sta­tion, South­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force and the San Fer­nan­do Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tion De­part­ment act­ed on in­for­ma­tion from the Echo Com­mand Cen­tre that a want­ed sus­pect, be­lieved to be armed, was at a house on Murli Street, La Ro­maine.

Of­fi­cers car­ried out a search of the premis­es un­der Reg­u­la­tion 12 of the Emer­gency Pow­ers Reg­u­la­tions, 2026, and al­leged­ly found a firearm and six rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

A 35-year-old La Ro­maine man was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

The ex­er­cise was led by Ag Sgt Seecha­ran and in­volved of­fi­cers of the South­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force, in­clud­ing PCs Mat­loo and Ram­sa­roop, un­der the su­per­vi­sion of PC Lange, to­geth­er with of­fi­cers of the San Fer­nan­do Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tion De­part­ment un­der the su­per­vi­sion of Cpl Mo­hammed.

The ar­rest fol­lowed a co­or­di­nat­ed an­ti-crime ex­er­cise be­tween 7 pm and 11 pm on Thurs­day across the South­ern and South West­ern Di­vi­sions.

Dur­ing that op­er­a­tion, of­fi­cers searched 12 ve­hi­cles and con­duct­ed 15 stop-and-search ex­er­cis­es be­fore act­ing on in­tel­li­gence that led them to an­oth­er res­i­dence on Murli Street, La Ro­maine.

A search con­duct­ed un­der Reg­u­la­tion 12 of the Emer­gency Pow­ers Reg­u­la­tions al­leged­ly un­cov­ered four rounds of .38 cal­i­bre am­mu­ni­tion con­cealed in a kitchen.

A 47-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the dis­cov­ery and tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Po­lice Sta­tion.

Po­lice said the 47-year-old man is al­so want­ed in con­nec­tion with sev­er­al se­ri­ous of­fences un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion in the San Fer­nan­do polic­ing dis­trict.

The Thurs­day ex­er­cise was co­or­di­nat­ed by Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Hospedales, Su­per­in­ten­dent Bertie, Woman Su­per­in­ten­dent Bridglal, As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dents Ram­saran, Chul­han, Pacheco and Rag­bir, along with In­spec­tor Ma­haraj. Of­fi­cers from the La Ro­maine Po­lice Post and the Spe­cial Du­ty Task Force took part.

The TTPS said the ex­er­cis­es form part of its on­go­ing ef­forts to re­move il­le­gal firearms and am­mu­ni­tion from com­mu­ni­ties, ap­pre­hend want­ed sus­pects and en­hance pub­lic safe­ty across the coun­try.
