The security officers said they found the back door of the ATM building ajar and smelled something burning. When they checked inside, they discovered that three locks had been torched and removed.

There were also signs that the suspects tried to burn through the vault but failed. No money was taken, and no suspects were found at the scene.

Investigators believe the men fled before completing the job. Police are reviewing CCTV footage and said one theory being considered was that the suspects may have used boats to access the isolated village and escape undetected.

No one was injured. Elie confirmed that investigations are continuing and urged anyone with information to come forward.
