This country has moved another step closer in its plans to embark on large scale solar power projects following a meeting between a T&T delegation led by Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart Young MP, and a team of executives from Lightsource BP, led by Group CEO, Nick Boyle.
The meeting occurred today, Tuesday 02nd November 2021.
A release from the Office of the Prime Minister reports that the meeting’s discussions surrounded the commitment to build two solar parks in Trinidad with a planned cumulative output of 112.2 MW. Minister Young also discussed the possibility of additional future solar projects in Trinidad with the possibility of building a solar park in Tobago.
Minister Young invited Lightsource BP to deepen its ties with Trinidad and Tobago and explore the possibility of further projects in the region as renewable energy becomes increasingly important in the push to reduce global carbon emissions.

Earlier today, at the Heads of Government session at the COP26 Climate Change Summit in Glasgow, Scotland, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley MP told world leaders that Trinidad and Tobago has “embarked upon ambitious plans to reduce emissions and build climate resilience”, including exploring opportunities with solar energy.
“We are in the process of establishing the largest utility-scale solar renewable energy project in the Caribbean with a capacity of 112 megawatts, accounting for 10% of our power needs, and we plan to increase this complement to 30% by 2030,” Dr Rowley said.
