The Trinidad and Tobago Midnight Marathon has been officially listed on the Abbott World Marathon Majors Global Marathon Calendar, marking a first for Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean running community.
The announcement was made by the BAFASPORTS Foundation, which said the international recognition places the event among other global marathons and supports its mission to promote health, wellness, and sports tourism through endurance activities.
Chief Executive Officer of BAFASPORTS, Nigel Bellamy, said the listing is a significant achievement for the organisation and the local running fraternity. Bellamy said it recognises the efforts of the team, partners, and athletes who have contributed to the event’s growth.
He added that the inclusion on the global calendar would attract more international runners to Trinidad and Tobago.
The Midnight Marathon forms part of the Caribbean Million Mile Challenge, which features a series of races held at midnight, including a 10K, a half marathon, and a full marathon. The races have become a key fixture in the regional running schedule.
Bellamy said the Abbott listing will increase the event’s visibility among thousands of runners worldwide and strengthen Trinidad and Tobago’s position as a destination for endurance sports.
BAFASPORTS continues to promote physical activity through several initiatives—including the NCC Carnival 1K and 5K, Mayaro Coconut Beach Run, GirlsRunTT, Caribbean Cross Country Championship, and Community Popups—aimed at encouraging participation in sport and supporting charitable causes.
