T&TEC has re­as­sured its To­ba­go cus­tomers that it is ful­ly equipped with the nec­es­sary man­pow­er and re­sources to main­tain a safe and re­li­able elec­tric­i­ty sup­ply.

The com­mis­sion al­so com­mit­ted to do­ing every­thing pos­si­ble to en­sure the coun­try’s elec­tric­i­ty re­mains con­sis­tent.

This re­sponse—sent to the me­dia yes­ter­day af­ter­noon— fol­lowed a threat by T&TEC work­ers on the is­land that there could be sup­ply dis­rup­tions if their is­sues are not ad­dressed. On Fri­day, work­ers, led by their union the OW­TU, staged a protest in front of the Scar­bor­ough T&TEC of­fice rais­ing con­cerns about work­ing con­di­tions, stalled ne­go­ti­a­tions, and short­ages in equip­ment and man­pow­er. In ad­dress­ing the is­sue of salary ne­go­ti­a­tions, T&TEC yes­ter­day ex­plained that as a State body, it op­er­ates un­der spe­cif­ic reg­u­la­tions when deal­ing with em­ploy­ee bar­gain­ing groups. The com­mis­sion added that the OW­TU is aware of the process and will be in­formed once ne­go­ti­a­tions re­sume.
