T&TEC has reassured its Tobago customers that it is fully equipped with the necessary manpower and resources to maintain a safe and reliable electricity supply.
The commission also committed to doing everything possible to ensure the country’s electricity remains consistent.
This response—sent to the media yesterday afternoon— followed a threat by T&TEC workers on the island that there could be supply disruptions if their issues are not addressed. On Friday, workers, led by their union the OWTU, staged a protest in front of the Scarborough T&TEC office raising concerns about working conditions, stalled negotiations, and shortages in equipment and manpower. In addressing the issue of salary negotiations, T&TEC yesterday explained that as a State body, it operates under specific regulations when dealing with employee bargaining groups. The commission added that the OWTU is aware of the process and will be informed once negotiations resume.
