An issue at the T&T Electricity Commission (T&TEC)’s Scarborough Substation led to an islandwide power outage in Tobago.
According to the commission, the issue led to the whole of Tobago losing its electricity supply on Wednesday night.
In a press release issued yesterday, T&TEC sought to explain the issue which caused the massive power outage around 10.21 pm on Wednesday.
It said: “Initial findings indicate that following the completion of maintenance work on a power transformer at Scarborough, a bus bar fault occurred at the substation, causing a cascade of events which resulted in a loss of generation at the Cove Power Station and the island-wide outage to Tobago.”
The commission stated that its staff began restoring power within 15 minutes of the outage and the entire island’s supply was fully restored by 12.45 am.
“T&TEC acknowledges the inconvenience that customers experienced and apologises for this unfortunate incident,” it said.
