General Manager of Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) Curvis Francois says his crews will mobilise in Tobago as soon as it’s safe to do to. His comment comes as there are several reports of power outage on the island as Hurricane Beryl affects mainly Tobago.
“Hurricane conditions are now being experienced in Tobago and feeders have started to trip,” he said.
Power outages have been recorded in several areas including Bethel, Mt.Irvine, Roxborough, Charlotteville, Mt Grace, Moriah, Castara, Bloody Bay, Idle Wile, Argyle, Mason Hall, Calder Hall , Black Rock, Les Coteaux and Scarborough.
“All we could do now is to brace and hope and pray for the best,” he added.
According to the Trinidad & Tobago Meteorological Service a Hurricane Warning is in effect for Tobago. This means there is a higher potential for hurricane conditions, including sustained winds in excess of 118 km/h, within the warning area, in this case within the next 10 hours. As of 2 am, Hurricane Beryl was located near 11.5°N 59.1°W, approximately 155km east – northeast of Tobago, moving west near 31 km/h.
