A cutlass-welding man damaged a Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) vehicle during a road rage incident in Princes Town on Saturday. The T&TEC crew was not injured.
A police report said around 11.30 pm the workers, the 43-year-old driver, the crew supervisor and the linesman were in the company’s Mitsubishi Canter truck travelling along St Croix Road Extension when they heard a loud sound.
The driver stopped the truck and a white Hyundai pick-up van with a male driver and female passenger pulled up alongside the truck and stopped.
The driver of the van came out and approached the T&TEC driver, claiming that the T&TEC truck collided with his van causing damage to his right side door mirror. He demanded compensation and this led to an argument.
According to the police, as the argument grew heated the driver of the van then took a cutlass from the tray, walked back to the T&TEC vehicle, struck it with the cutlass damaging the front windscreen, right and left front windows.
When contacted, T&TEC corporate communications officer Clare Cooper confirmed the company’s vehicle was damaged during an incident but did not divulge any details.
She said the TTPS and T&TEC police are investigating.
Meanwhile, the police said officers have interviewed suspects in relation to malicious damage to T&TEC property and investigations are continuing. PC Khadoo is investigating.
