A series of anti-crime exercises during the weekend have resulted in the arrest of 10 people, the seizure of an illegal weapon and the destruction of several marijuana trees, the Police Service has confirmed.
In the first incident, North-Eastern Division Task Force officers carried out an exercise between 2 pm and 6 pm, on Saturday (November 9, 2024), which focussed primarily on known drug blocks and abandoned structures in the San Juan and Morvant districts.
The TTPS says while at Seventh Avenue in Malick, officers searched a bushy area, after observing a man fleeing the scene. The search resulted in the discovery and seizure of one pistol loaded with a magazine containing four rounds of ammunition.
Meanwhile, a drug eradication exercise was conducted in Area North of the Northern Division between 7:30 am and 3 pm on Friday (November 8, 2024).
The joint operation included officers of the Arima Criminal Investigations Department (CID), with assistance from the Arima Operations and Intelligence Unit, the Northern Division Task Force, the Arima Police Station, National Operations Task Force, the Special Investigations Unit, the Eastern Division and the North Central Division Task Force.
During the joint operation, officers arrested three 17-year-old suspects, all of Valencia, in connection with a report of Robbery in the Aripo district.
The same party of officers then proceeded to a forested area, where they discovered a marijuana field with approximately 4,000 fully grown trees, with an estimated street value of $2.4 million.
The field was subsequently destroyed.
Still on Friday, Eastern Division Task Force officers, along with personnel of the Sangre Grande CID and Canine Branch, conducted an exercise between 4 pm and 8 pm, which led to the arrest of four people of Sangre Grande for the possession of Cannabis—three men, ages 26 to 34 years and a 21-year-old woman.
Two men of Northeastern Settlement were held for firearm related offences, while a 22-year-old suspect, also of the area was held relative to several shooting offences.
And, in the Western Division on Saturday, Task Force officers proceeded three miles into a forested area in the Patna Village district between 10 am and 4:30 pm, where they found one bulletproof vest and 100 fully grown marijuana trees.
The trees were subsequently destroyed.
Investigations are ongoing.
