The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is encouraging members of the public to help law enforcement in solving crimes for which rewards have been offered, thus ensuring that the criminals involved in those crimes are brought to justice quickly.

The reminder comes as the search continues for those behind the killing of Prison Officer II Trevor Serrette and Prison Officer Nigel Jones.  A reward of $500,000 has been offered for information leading to the capture of their killers.

The Police Service also is offering a reward of $100,000 to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of anyone harbouring a police-issued Galil rifle and two fully loaded magazines.

“Anyone with information on matters where rewards have been offered is asked to come forward and assist law enforcement in solving these crimes and bringing criminals to justice as swiftly as possible,” the TTPS explains.

A TTPS release issued today outlines the procedure for claiming rewards in exchange for information on crime and criminal activities.

“When a reward is offered in exchange for information on crime, informants can contact the numbers listed on the reward flyers (483-1170/1171/1172/1173 or 1174). All calls are treated as private and confidential. Any information provided to the police will then be investigated thoroughly,” the TTPS says.

“ONLY if the information supplied leads to the successful arrest and prosecution of the perpetrator(s) of the crime, will the reward be disbursed to the informant,” it stresses.

According to the TTPS: “Rewards are primarily used by law enforcement agencies as an incentive to get persons to come forward with information about crimes, while investigations and operations continue simultaneously.”

“They are not meant to enrich criminals or fund further criminal activities,” the TTPS stated.
