“It’s fake news,” say the au­thor­i­ties, con­cern­ing a so­cial me­dia post claim­ing that the coun­try will soon be un­der com­plete lock­down for a 14-day pe­ri­od, and that Gov­ern­ment “will al­low every­one to quar­an­tine in their homes in or­der to slow the com­mu­ni­ty spread” of COVID-19.

The post has been shared mul­ti­ple times via Face­book, as well as via What­sApp.

A news re­lease from the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS), speak­ing di­rect­ly to the so­cial me­dia post, al­so is re­mind­ing mem­bers of the pub­lic to be cau­tious of false in­for­ma­tion sent via so­cial me­dia, which can cause un­nec­es­sary pan­ic and anx­i­ety.

The TTPS is ad­vis­ing mem­bers of the pub­lic to check and stay up­dat­ed with TTPS Face­book, Twit­ter and In­sta­gram pages for ac­cu­rate in­for­ma­tion on mat­ters re­lat­ing to crime and polic­ing, and to the Min­istry of Health and oth­er Gov­ern­ment sources for COVID-19 re­lat­ed mat­ters.
