TTPS: Protest but obey the law

The TTPS in­forms that while it recog­nis­es the right of cit­i­zens to protest, it asks that such ac­tions are done with re­spect to the law, warn­ing that crim­i­nals laws bro­ken dur­ing protests will be dealt with ac­cord­ing­ly.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS) is aware that sev­er­al groups are plan­ning protest ac­tion, sched­uled for Tues­day 19th April 2022, at var­i­ous lo­ca­tions across the coun­try.

The TTPS rec­og­nizes that the right to protest is fun­da­men­tal to the growth of any democ­ra­cy and while it is the right of per­sons and groups to protest, these ac­tions must be done with­in the con­fines of the law.

The TTPS is charged with main­tain­ing law and or­der, there­fore po­lice will be mon­i­tor­ing these planned protests to en­sure per­sons obey the law. In this re­gard, the TTPS fur­ther ad­vis­es that any crim­i­nal laws bro­ken dur­ing planned protest ac­tiv­i­ty will be treat­ed with the full sanc­tion and brunt of the law.
