Po­lice say they will be do­ing all that they can en­sure that the or­ders of the court to keep busi­ness­woman Star Sab­ga un­der house ar­rest is close­ly su­per­vised with lit­tle in­ter­rup­tion to her neigh­bours.

Speak­ing dur­ing the week­ly me­dia brief­ing yes­ter­day, TTPS pub­lic in­for­ma­tion of­fi­cer, ASP Owie Rus­sell, said the po­lice ser­vice will en­sure Sab­ga re­mains in­side her home at Re­gent Tow­ers Bayshore, West­moor­ings.

On Mon­day night, Sab­ga was re­leased from de­ten­tion, af­ter High Court Judge Vigel Paul or­dered she be placed on house ar­rest dur­ing the du­ra­tion of her Pre­ven­tive De­ten­tion Or­der (PDO), af­ter spend­ing just over a month at the Women’s Prison in Gold­en Grove.

As part of her re­lease, Sab­ga was or­dered to sur­ren­der her pass­port and trav­el doc­u­ments, all com­mu­ni­ca­tion de­vices and was pro­hib­it­ed from com­mu­ni­cat­ing, di­rect­ly or in­di­rect­ly, with any­one out­side her res­i­dence with­out the pri­or ap­proval of the Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice.

Sab­ga was ar­rest­ed on June 25, one day af­ter two of her rel­a­tives, busi­ness­man Do­minic Hadeed and his wife Genevieve, were de­tained in con­nec­tion with an al­leged plot to kill Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar and oth­er se­nior Gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials.

Asked if a po­lice of­fi­cer will be sta­tioned out­side Sab­ga’s apart­ment, Owie said that will have to be as­sessed.

“At first we will do an as­sess­ment of the liv­ing fa­cil­i­ties, and then we will de­ploy re­sources ac­cord­ing­ly to en­sure we can com­ply with our job, with­out af­fect­ing oth­er per­sons liv­ing with­in the fa­cil­i­ty as well.”

Asked if the as­sess­ment was not done two days af­ter the or­der, Rus­sell said: “I can say we will com­ply with the court’s or­ders, so of­fi­cers would have al­ready start­ed the process.”

He added that the in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­to the leak­ing of an au­dio record­ing, al­leged­ly be­tween Sab­ga and Genevieve, which trig­gered the PDO for the trio, was on­go­ing.
