The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service reported that officers seized a firearm, ammunition and quantities of cannabis during anti-crime exercises conducted in the Central and North Eastern Divisions yesterday.
According to the TTPS, officers conducted a search in the Las Lomas district between 6 pm and 11 pm on Tuesday 10th March, 2026. During the operation, they discovered two plastic zip-lock bags containing cannabis weighing approximately 75 grammes hidden in a pile of red bricks on the western side of a building.
Further searches on the eastern side of the premises led to the discovery of a black plastic bag concealed in a bushy area containing assorted ammunition. Officers seized one round of 9mm ammunition and five rounds of 5.56mm ammunition.
Officers later proceeded to Kernaham Trace, Cunupia, where a search of a forested area resulted in the discovery of three pigtail buckets containing three fully grown cannabis trees. Police seized the cannabis and ammunition and conveyed them to the Las Lomas Police Post for safekeeping.
In a separate intelligence-led operation conducted between 3 pm and 6 pm in the Maloney district, officers seized a firearm, a magazine and fourteen rounds of .40 calibre ammunition and arrested one suspect.
Acting on intelligence, officers proceeded to Cleaver Road, Arima, where they met a man outside a shop area on the eastern side of the premises. After officers identified themselves and informed him that they would conduct a search under the State of Emergency Regulations, the suspect ran towards the back of the house.
Officers pursued and apprehended him a short distance away. A search of a multi-coloured bag he was carrying led to the discovery of a firearm fitted with a magazine containing fourteen rounds of .40 calibre ammunition.
Police identified the suspect as a 43-year-old man of Cleaver Road, Arima. Officers cautioned and arrested him and conveyed him to the Maloney Police Station.
The TTPS reported that Senior Superintendent Maynard-Wilson and Superintendent McKenzie coordinated the exercise together with officers of the Maloney Police Station.
