Twenty-one spent shells, including one with TTPS markings, were among ballistic items recovered following a double homicide and shooting incident in Penal on Sunday night, in which two men were killed and another wounded.
Dead are Jahrael Akeel Tafari Hunte, 23, of Ramesar Reyes Trace, Syne Village, Penal, and Randolp Felix, 45, of Penal Rock Road, Penal.
The injured man, Nicholas Davis, 38, of #2 Welcome Peter Road, Siparia, remains under medical care.
Investigators said officers attached to the Penal Criminal Investigation Department were on duty at around 8 pm when they received a report of loud explosions on Penal Rock Road.
Officers responded and met an informant who told them at about 7.30 pm, he was at his home watching football on his computer with Hunte, Felix and Davis.
According to the informant, Hunte indicated that his wife was calling him. The informant said when he went outside, he saw three men standing outside the gate armed with firearms.
Moments later, loud explosions rang out, causing him to flee for safety.
He later found Hunte and Felix with multiple gunshot wounds.
Davis was found injured and transported to the Siparia Health Facility, where he was treated before being transferred to the Point Fortin General Hospital.
Crime scene investigators attached to Homicide Region III processed the scene and recovered 21 spent shells. The casings bore various markings, including one TTPS-marked 9mm shell, three TECH 9mm Luger shells, 10 CBC 9mm shells, one FC Luger shell, one WIN 9mm Luger shell, one TRN 9x19 shell, one F&B 9x19 shell and one IMI 9mm Luger shell.
Investigators also recovered four metal objects and three live 9mm rounds, including rounds marked TTPS, CBC and WIN 9mm Luger.
Investigations are being led by PC Lall of the Penal Criminal Investigation Department.
Police said the motive for the shooting remains unknown and enquiries are continuing.
