T&T’s Lalla now a global UNICEF Youth Advocate

The Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter (Gen­der and Child Af­fairs) yes­ter­day an­nounced that Priyan­ka Lal­la, Trinidad and To­ba­go’s Child Rights Am­bas­sador, has been spe­cial­ly se­lect­ed by UNICEF to be­come the first UNICEF Youth Ad­vo­cate from the 12 coun­tries of the East­ern Caribbean, along with an­oth­er rep­re­sen­ta­tive from Bar­ba­dos.

As a Child Rights Am­bas­sador, Lal­la ed­u­cat­ed chil­dren and adults na­tion­al­ly on the Unit­ed Na­tions Con­ven­tion on the Rights of the Child. Over the past two years, she has al­so ad­vo­cat­ed for the pro­mo­tion of child rights and re­spon­si­bil­i­ties, en­vi­ron­men­tal sus­tain­abil­i­ty and the pre­ven­tion of non-com­mu­ni­ca­ble dis­eases.

In this new role as a UNICEF Youth Ad­vo­cate, Lal­la will be sup­port­ing UNICEF’s ini­tia­tives, which in­clude ac­cess to qual­i­ty ed­u­ca­tion, end­ing vi­o­lence against chil­dren, ad­dress­ing the is­sues of eq­ui­ty and in­clu­sion and ba­sic health care for chil­dren. The Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter (Gen­der and Child Af­fairs) said it is proud of Lal­la and wish­es her suc­cess as she con­tin­ues to cham­pi­on child rights across the globe.

In com­mem­o­ra­tion of World Chil­dren’s Day, which is be­ing cel­e­brat­ed glob­al­ly to­day, the Of­fice of the Prime Min­ster, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with UNICEF, has pro­duced a Men­tal Health and Well­ness Work­book and U-Re­port Check-Up to sup­port chil­dren through the chal­lenges of the COVID-19 pan­dem­ic.

The work­book con­tains tips, games, ac­tiv­i­ties, re­fer­ral agen­cies, con­tact num­bers, and apps to help chil­dren im­prove their men­tal health and well­ness. Up­on com­ple­tion of the U-Re­port check-up, one child will be ran­dom­ly se­lect­ed to win a lap­top. To par­tic­i­pate, the na­tion’s chil­dren (18 years old and un­der) are en­cour­aged to do the fol­low­ing:

1. Mes­sage the word “join” to @URe­port­TandT on Face­book Mes­sen­ger.

2. Com­plete the anony­mous four ques­tion U-Re­port Men­tal Health Check­up to re­ceive tips and ac­cess to the down­load­able Men­tal Health & Well­ness Work­book.
