TTT Limited has apologised to the National Council for Indian Culture (NCIC) over a temporary breakdown in transmission during a live broadcast of Divali Nagar on October 26, which interrupted the Opposition Leader's speech. The company has pledged to air Kamla Persad-Bissessar's full statement on its social media pages.
UNC Chairman Dave Tancoo wrote to the state-owned media house demanding that the full speech be aired before Divali and on the day of the Hindu festival. He also questioned whether the Opposition Leader was purposely snubbed as a form of political malice.
In explaining the technical difficulties experienced, TTT said, "An autonomous automatic update occurred during the broadcast which resulted in the connection failure. To rectify this issue, the system was rolled back to its previous operational state. This successfully restored network functionality, allowing us to reconnect to the stream. These events occurred between 8:26 PM and 9:23 PM when our Master Control Team reestablished the live broadcast on television. Our technical team continued work into the morning of October 27, 2024, where a comprehensive review of our ICT systems was conducted to ensure that no such disruptions will reoccur."
TTT added that it is "unfortunate" that the Opposition viewed it as malicious, as it was indeed a technical issue.
TTT said that in redressing the issue, it will be posting the full uninterrupted footage to its social media pages and webpage.
The company said it "sincerely regrets this issue and formally communicated the same to the NCIC."
The NCIC told Guardian Media it is yet to decide if the apology is sufficient.
Meanwhile, UNC Chairman Dave Tancoo said it is a good start but not enough. He questioned why TTT did not commit to broadcasting the Opposition Leader's speech on its television frequency as well.
