Two men from Cunupia have been jointly charged with firearm-related offences. The men appeared virtually before Magistrate Adrian Darmanie, in the Chaguanas First Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charges, on July 15th.

One man was remanded into custody and another granted bail in the sum of $400,000 with a surety, after they appeared before a Chaguanas Magistrate last week, jointly charged with firearm-related offences.
JAHIEM JOSEPH, 20, and JESAIAH HARPER, 20, both of Cunupia, were jointly charged with possession of firearm and possession of ammunition, while Joseph, faced additional charges of possession of firearm to endanger life, possession of ammunition to endanger life, two counts of malicious damage to a vehicle and malicious damage of household fixtures. Harper was also charged with fraudulent use of a number plate.
The men appeared virtually before Magistrate Adrian Darmanie, in the Chaguanas First Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charges, on Friday 15th July, 2022.
Joseph was not called upon to plea and was remanded into custody, while Harper pleaded not guilty to the charge of fraudulent use of a number plate. He was not called upon to plea for the other two charges (firearm and ammunition possession).
Harper was granted bail in the sum of $400,000 with a surety or a $40,000 cash alternative. He is to report to the Cunupia Police Station between the hours 6 am and 6 pm five days a week. The accused was also placed on a curfew between the hours of 9 pm and 5 am and is to have no contact or communication with the virtual complainant.
A male victim reported to police that around 11:05 pm, on Tuesday 12th July, 2022, he was awoken by the sound of loud explosions outside his Cunupia home. Upon checking he observed a man running out of the yard through an open gate and onto the roadway.
Further checks of the yard revealed that the back windshield of a white Nissan AD Wagon motor vehicle was shattered and several holes were seen in the tailgate. A blue Hyundai Elantra motor vehicle which was parked a short distance away, was also found to be damaged.
A report of the incident was made and around 12:25 am, on Wednesday 13th July, 2022, officers of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch, intercepted a red Toyota Aqua motor vehicle along the Uriah Butler Highway in the vicinity of Heartland Plaza, with two male occupants.
The suspects were interviewed by investigators, following which officers proceeded to the Cunupia district, where they conducted a search of an open bushy area which resulted in the discovery of a pair of number plates, which were allegedly used on the Aqua motor vehicle.
