The following is a press release from the TTPS:
Two murder accused are expected to appear in court today, after Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) detectives solved three separate murders yesterday. A 32-year-old labourer is expected to appear before a Chaguanas Magistrate today, charged with the murders of Akeem James and Riaz Isahak, which occurred in separate incidents, on April 18th, 2022.
CLEVON HOUSAND, of Enterprise, Chaguanas, was charged with the offences, following advice received from Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Joan Honore-Paul, on Tuesday 2nd August, 2022. James, aka ‘Kimo’, 26, of Chrissie Terrace, Enterprise, Chaguanas, was in the front yard of his home with three persons around 1:50 pm, on Monday 18th April, 2022, when a blue Aqua motor vehicle pulled up and the occupant opened fire on the group before driving off. The injured persons were taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility for treatment, where James was pronounced dead.
Less than half an hour later, around 2:14pm, on the same day, Isahak, 32, of Chrissie Terrace, Enterprise, was fatally shot in the stomach and died at the scene at Bhagaloo Trace, Extension. Officers of the Central Division and the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, while responding to the first incident, received information about the second shooting incident. Officers of the Emergency Response Patrol Unit responded to the report and observed the blue Aqua motor vehicle speeding along the roadway.
They further observed the occupant of the vehicle throw an object out of the car in the vicinity of John Street. The officers followed the vehicle which stopped along John Street and observed a male occupant exiting the vehicle and entering a nearby apartment building.
The area was cordoned off and officers of the Central Division Task Force (CDTF) were called in for assistance. A search of the area was conducted and one male suspect was found hiding in an apartment attempting to conceal an AR-15 rifle, with two magazines and 30 rounds of ammunition. An assortment of ammunition was also found in the area.
A search of the area along John Street resulted in officers finding one revolver and five rounds of ammunition. The accused was charged on April 21st, 2022, by PC Guelmo of the CDTF, for trafficking in firearms and other related offences. Housand appeared before a Chaguanas Magistrate to answer to those charges and was remanded into custody.
On June 6th, 2022, he was granted bail in the sum of $250,000. Investigations into the murders continued, spearheaded by Supt. (Ag.) Dhillpaul and supervised by Insp. Jones and Sgt. Forbes, of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, (HBI), Region Three. The accused was arrested by officers on July 27th, 2022 in connection with the incidents.
Housand was charged on Tuesday 2nd August, 2022, by WPC Jenelle Mohammed for the murder of Akeem James, while PC Neesham Ali, charged the accused for the murder of Riaz Isahak on Wednesday 3rd August, 2022. Both officers are attached to HBI Region Three. Meanwhile, an Arouca man is expected to appear virtually before an Arima Magistrate today, charged with the murder of his step-father, Evans Henry, which occurred on Saturday 2nd July, 2022. DELSON ANDREWS, 44, a mason, of Five Rivers, was charged with the offence, following advice received from Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Joan Honore-Paul, on Tuesday 2nd August, 2022.
Mr. Henry, 84, also of Five Rivers, Arouca, was at his home when a male relative who lives next door, started throwing stones at the house, which caused several window panes to be broken. The assailant then attempted to enter the premises by using a hammer to break down the front door. When this proved futile, he then broke down a wall and gained entry to the house.
The assailant then dealt the victim several blows about the body before dragging him outside and kicking him several times before making his escape. The victim died at the scene. Investigations into the incident were supervised by ASP Douglas, Insps. Ramjag and John, W/Insp. Sylvester, Sgt. Stanisclaus and Cpls (Ag.) Jones and Gordon, of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region Two. A suspect was arrested in connection with the incident on July 26th, 2022, in the Arima district.
