Two men are dead and three people wounded after a shooting in Tunapuna on Wednesday night.
Police said 23-year-old Mikael Hernandez, also known as Mikael Voisin, Aaron Leander and three others were liming near the Tunapuna Market entrance at 8 pm when a vehicle drove up from the Priority Bus Route.
Three men got out of the vehicle and shot at the crowd.
Voisin died at the scene while Leander and the three wounded people were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope.
Leander was declared dead at hospital.
Also wounded in the attack was a 22-year-old woman who was hit in her chest, left arm and leg. A 34-year-old man was also shot in his back and right thigh, while a third man was shot in his right leg.
Guardian Media visited the scene as Voisin's relatives stood nearby and watched as crime scene investigators collected evidence.
Speaking with Guardian Media, Hernandez's father Sean Modeste said he knew his son as a vendor selling fruits in the market, adding he was planning to celebrate the first birthday of his infant daughter at the end of January. He said he did not know his son to be involved in anything illegal.
Another relative, who asked not to be named, said Hernandez was known to be a "past affiliate of shady characters" when he lived on St John's Road, St Augustine, and believes he was killed over those past associations.
Officers of the North-Central Division remained at the scene collecting evidence up to 9.45 pm.
Police from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region II are continuing enquiries.
