Two murders on Thursday night in Petit Valley and Santa Cruz brought the country’s murder count to 110, compared to 157 for the same period last year.
In the first killing around 5 pm on April 10, Omari St Rose, 31, of Sparrow Drive, Simeon Road, Petit Valley, was shot at his home.
Police said he was pronounced dead on arrival at the St James Infirmary 20 minutes later.
Officers were alerted to the shooting and arrived to find St Rose’s family rushing him to the hospital, so the lawmen transferred the bleeding man to their vehicle and sped off.
St Rose, who was also called One Foot; Big Foot and Foots was shot multiple times as he stood inside his garage.
Seven 9 mm spent shells were recovered at the scene.
In the second incident, which occurred around 7.40 pm, Rawle Jordan, also called Chubby, 42, of Sam Boucaud, Upper Santa Cruz, was killed while on duty at the WASA Treatment Plant, Chiquito Street, Upper Santa Cruz.
Police said residents contacted officers after gunshots were heard coming from the facility, and they arrived to find the watchman lying on the ground, bleeding from wounds to the left shoulder, right arm and upper right chest.
Police said a total of 15 spent shells of varying calibre were recovered at the scene.
Two masked men were reportedly seen running away from the treatment plant.
