Two men were shot and killed by police officers during separate shoot-outs in Las Lomas and San Juan on Saturday.
Police said the first incident took place in Las Lomas on Saturday afternoon.
Officers of the Central Division Task Force (CDTF) were conducting an anti-crime exercise related to the ongoing State of Emergency (SoE) when they received a report of a Honda City being stolen at gunpoint in St Joseph.
The officers found the vehicle parked in a yard at Santa Monica Drive West with its doors open.
The officers approached the vehicle and were confronted by a gunman who shot in their direction.
The officers returned fire with their service pistols and the gunman was shot several times. The officers managed to escape unscathed.
The man was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Around 11.20 pm, an off-duty police officer was driving with two civilians along Coco Road, Febeau Village, San Juan, when the female driver was forced to stop the vehicle after two men wearing hoodies walked in the middle of the road.
One of the men reportedly had an assault rifle.
The officer drew his service firearm, and got out of the vehicle to confront the men.
The man with the gun shot in their direction and the officer returned fire. The men then ran away.
The 33-year-old driver was shot in her hand as she drove away upon hearing the gunshots.
The officer hid in a patch of bushes until colleagues responded to reports of the shooting.
The officers searched the community for the gunmen and found one lying in an empty lot.
He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope where he was pronounced dead.
Crime scene investigators visited the area where the shooting occurred and recovered two spent shells.
Both victims were not officially identified, up to late yesterday.
