Two more persons have died from COVID-19, brining the total to 17, according to the latest official update from the Ministry of Health.
In its 10am update for today, Friday 28 August 2020, the Ministry is reporting that the persons who passed away were elderly males with pre-existing health conditions.
The Ministry also reports 36 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the current active total to 867 persons.
Other highlights from the Ministry of Health update:
The Ministry of Health regrets to inform the public that there are two additional COVID-19 related deaths. The persons are both elderly males with co-morbidities. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 17.
* The thirty-six (36) positive cases reported below show results from samples taken during the period August 20th to August 27th, 2020. Therefore, this figure is NOT representative of the positive cases over the last 24 hours only.
* Thirty-six (36) additional persons have tested positive for COVID -19. A cluster of nine (9) non-nationals is included in this group. The remaining 27 persons are nationals. All established protocols have been implemented.
* Thirty-four persons have been discharged.

The Ministry of Health provides the following clinical update as of the morning of Friday 28th August, 2020:
• Number of samples submitted to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), the UWI and other local sites for testing for COVID-19. 22,792
• Number of unique patient tests completed 19,870
• Number of repeated tests 2,922
• Number of samples which have tested positive at public and private facilities in Trinidad and Tobago 1,512
• Total number of active cases 867
• Number of deaths 17
• Number of persons discharged 628

Intensive Care Units (ICUs) are hospital wards that provide treatment for people who are very ill. They are staffed with health care professionals who are trained in ICU treatment and the use of sophisticated monitoring equipment.
High Dependency Units (HDUs) are wards for people who need more observation, treatment and nursing care than is possible in a general ward but slightly less than that given in an Intensive Care Unit.
An Ambulatory Patient is able to walk about and is not bedridden.

If the person is severely ill, call the 811 (emergency hotline) or call ahead to the Accident and Emergency Department of your nearest hospital for help and go in immediately.

● Wear a mask over your nose and mouth when you go out in public
● Keep your distance from others (6 feet)

● Clean then sanitise surfaces (e.g. tabletops, door knobs and cell phones)
● Wash your hands often with soap and waters or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser
● Cough into a tissue or into the cook of your elbow
● Avoid touching your face
