There have been two additional deaths from COVID-19 in Tobago, bringing the total number of deaths due to the disease to 35.
The Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) reports that the deceased were an 81-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman, both of whom had co-morbidities.
The TRHA also is reporting that for the first time since March 2020, the number of active COVID cases on the island crossed 300 persons.
According to the TRHA, there were 36 new cases, the third highest number of cases recorded in a 24-hour period. Those new cases, the TRHA says, have brought the total number of active cases to 324.
The Authority also reports that some 12,079 people have been vaccinated, with 9,348 of them having received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile, Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development, Tracy Davidson-Celestine, is urging Tobagonians to get vaccinated before the first international flight arrives.
She says if they do not, the consequences can be disastrous.
