There have been two ad­di­tion­al deaths from COVID-19 in To­ba­go, bring­ing the to­tal num­ber of deaths due to the dis­ease to 35.

The To­ba­go Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty (TRHA) re­ports that the de­ceased were an 81-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman, both of whom had co-mor­bidi­ties.

The TRHA al­so is re­port­ing that for the first time since March 2020, the num­ber of ac­tive COVID cas­es on the is­land crossed 300 per­sons.

Ac­cord­ing to the TRHA, there were 36 new cas­es, the third high­est num­ber of cas­es record­ed in a 24-hour pe­ri­od.  Those new cas­es, the TRHA says, have brought the to­tal num­ber of ac­tive cas­es to 324.

The Au­thor­i­ty al­so re­ports that some 12,079 peo­ple have been vac­ci­nat­ed, with 9,348 of them hav­ing re­ceived their sec­ond dose of a COVID-19 vac­cine.

Mean­while, Sec­re­tary of Health, Well­ness and Fam­i­ly De­vel­op­ment, Tra­cy David­son-Ce­les­tine, is urg­ing To­bag­o­ni­ans to get vac­ci­nat­ed be­fore the first in­ter­na­tion­al flight ar­rives.

She says if they do not, the con­se­quences can be dis­as­trous.
