Police have captured two teenagers, including a 14-year-old, following a high-speed chase and shootout on the Claude Noel Highway in Tobago on Wednesday night. However, one suspect remains on the run.
Police said a barber from Mary’s Hill, Plymouth, reported to Scarborough police that his red Mitsubishi Lancer had been stolen. He told officers that around 10.30 am, he dropped the car off at the garage in Scarborough for repairs. At 5 pm, he was asked to come for the car, but since he was still at work, he asked for it to be left on the roadside with the key inside.
By the time he went to pick it up, it was gone.
Soon after, officers attempted to intercept a stolen car along Milford Road, Bon Accord, when the driver sped off. The chase ended in a crash near Lambeau, where the stolen car collided with a police officer’s vehicle and another car. It is alleged that a pregnant woman was trapped inside and had to be rescued before being taken for medical attention.
Police said as the vehicle flipped, one of the suspects allegedly fired at officers, who returned fire. Two suspects, a 14-year-old and a 19-year-old, were arrested and taken to the Scarborough General Hospital for medical attention.
Investigations are ongoing.
