A 38-year-old truck dri­ver em­ployed with the Na­mal­co Group died when a tyre on a truck he was dri­ving ex­plod­ed yes­ter­day.

Po­lice de­scribed this as a freak ac­ci­dent.

The vic­tim was iden­ti­fied as Rakesh Ram­nar­ine, 38, of Cap de Ville, Point Fortin.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, Ram­nar­ine was dri­ving a truck west along the East­ern Main Road in San­gre Grande around 9.15 am, when he start­ed ex­pe­ri­enc­ing me­chan­i­cal prob­lems.
He re­port­ed­ly stopped the truck and went to check on the brakes.

While check­ing, a back tyre blew off, throw­ing him from un­der the truck.

Af­ter an am­bu­lance the po­lice con­tact­ed failed to re­spond, of­fi­cers put Ram­nar­ine in a ve­hi­cle and took him to the San­gre Grande Hos­pi­tal, where he was pro­nounced dead.
Ram­nar­ine was em­ployed as a truck dri­ver at Na­mal­co.
His body will be tak­en to the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre, St James, for a post mortem.
