A 38-year-old truck driver employed with the Namalco Group died when a tyre on a truck he was driving exploded yesterday.
Police described this as a freak accident.
The victim was identified as Rakesh Ramnarine, 38, of Cap de Ville, Point Fortin.
According to reports, Ramnarine was driving a truck west along the Eastern Main Road in Sangre Grande around 9.15 am, when he started experiencing mechanical problems.
He reportedly stopped the truck and went to check on the brakes.
While checking, a back tyre blew off, throwing him from under the truck.
After an ambulance the police contacted failed to respond, officers put Ramnarine in a vehicle and took him to the Sangre Grande Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Ramnarine was employed as a truck driver at Namalco.
His body will be taken to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, for a post mortem.
