An unvaccinated person is the most recent victim of COVID-19 in Tobago, and theirs is the first recorded death from the disease in 11 days. The island’s death toll from COVID-19 now stands at 267.
That’s according to the latest update from the Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection, in the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), dated Thursday 12 May 2022.
Prior to yesterday, the most recent death on the island was reported almost two weeks ago, on Sunday 1 May 2022. The deceased at that time also was an unvaccinated person.
The THA Health Division report notes that over the past 24 hours, some 63 new positive cases have been reported. There are now 612 current active infections on the island.
The report also shows that while COVID-19 infections in Tobago continue to climb, previously infected people are recovering from the disease, as some 53 people were certified as recovered from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours.
That means at present, the total number of people in Tobago who have recovered from COVID-19 since March 2020, now stands at 8,310.
The Tobago COVID-19 update for 12 May 2022 also says that 14 people currently are hospitalised with COVID-19. Seven of these patients have not been vaccinated at all against the disease, while the other seven patients have been fully vaccinated.
