US DEA officers in T&T to train local agencies

Four mem­bers of the U.S. Drug En­force­ment Ad­min­is­tra­tion (DEA) In­ter­na­tion­al Train­ing Team and the U.S. Em­bassy’s DEA Port of Spain Coun­try Of­fice are in the coun­try to train mem­bers of lo­cal law en­force­ment agen­cies in in­tel­li­gence col­lec­tion and analy­sis.

The train­ing will take place at the Trinidad and To­ba­go Pris­ons Train­ing Com­pound from Ju­ly 8 to 12.

Ac­cord­ing to the US Em­bassy, 30 of­fi­cers of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS), Transna­tion­al Or­ga­nized Crime Unit (TOCU), Spe­cial In­ves­ti­ga­tions Unit, Trinidad and To­ba­go Cus­toms, Coast Guard, and Prison Ser­vice will be learn­ing best prac­tices in glob­al drug traf­fick­ing trends, in­tel­li­gence, telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions, doc­u­ment ex­ploita­tion, ba­sic first aid, in­ter­view tech­niques, and crit­i­cal think­ing from the Wash­ing­ton, DC-based train­ing team.

Unit­ed States of Amer­i­ca con­tin­ues to work with, and pro­vides sig­nif­i­cant se­cu­ri­ty as­sis­tance just like this train­ing, to Trinidad and To­ba­go law en­force­ment and oth­er na­tion­al se­cu­ri­ty agen­cies to sup­port ef­forts to ad­dress crime and vi­o­lence and to make Trinidad and To­ba­go safer for all of us.”
