Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the theft of a quan­ti­ty of cash from an el­der­ly woman ear­ly on Sat­ur­day morn­ing in Cunu­pia.

Po­lice said the 80-year-old woman locked the doors and win­dows of her Wel­come Road home and went to bed on Fri­day night.

She was lat­er awak­ened by the sound of a com­mo­tion in­side her house and on check­ing, saw a stranger who was ran­sack­ing the house.

The man stole US$500 and £200 be­fore or­der­ing the woman to open a door for him, which al­lowed him to flee.

Of­fi­cers from the Cunu­pia Po­lice Sta­tion were called in and found that the ban­dit had en­tered the house by open­ing a win­dow.
