Nancy Almarales, a 50-year-old mother from Daniel Trace, Valencia, was shot and killed last night.
Almarales received multiple gunshot wounds to her body and died instantly. Kenrick Charles, 50, also of Daniel Trace, was shot in the chest and remains under observation at the Arima Health Facility.
Police officers who responded were PC Rattansingh, WPC Gonzales, and PC Earle.
Reports indicate that at around 11:55 pm on Saturday, PC Earle was on sentry duty at the front of the Valencia Police Post when he observed a white Nissan AD Wagon, registration PCP 6622, drive along the footpath in front of the post and come to a stop. He saw the driver exit the vehicle, walk towards the police post entrance, and collapse.
PC Earle called for assistance, and PC Rattansingh and WPC Gonzales responded. The officers found the man lying on the pavement with injuries to his chest. Checks of the vehicle revealed Almarales slumped in the front passenger seat with no signs of life.
The driver, Kevin Charles, told police that at around 11:30 pm, he picked up a woman at Valencia Junction who hired him to take her home at Clarence Trace, collect money, and return her to Valencia Junction. After dropping her off, he drove a short distance to turn around. On returning to pick her up, several loud explosions were heard. In an attempt to escape the shooting, Charles sped off. He felt a burning sensation in his chest and drove to the Valencia Police Post, where he collapsed.
The district medical officer viewed Almarales’ body and ordered its removal to Sangre Grande Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The scene was processed by CSI officers, and the Arouca Homicide Bureau continues its enquiries.
