The Venezuelan National Assembly (Parliament) is discussing a motion to declare Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar persona non grata in accordance with Article 111.
Reports from Venezuela today said a notice posted on the National Assembly’s website indicated that the discussion will begin at 2.30 pm Venezuelan time.
The same agenda includes the second reading of the “Commandos Bill for the Integral Defence of Venezuela,” a sweeping national security law that would empower special military units amid rising regional tensions.
This latest development comes a day after Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced that Venezuela will suspend all energy negotiations with Trinidad and Tobago.
Tensions between Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago have reached a peak following the arrival of the US naval ship USS Gravely at the Port of Port-of-Spain on Sunday. Hours later, Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodríguez accused the Kamla Persad-Bissessar-led Government of hostile provocation, claiming the vessel was part of a US-led plot, supported by T&T, to attack Venezuela.
The T&T Government has denied the allegation, saying the USS Gravely arrived as part of continued training and cooperation exercises with the United States.
