The Venezue­lan Na­tion­al As­sem­bly (Par­lia­ment) is dis­cussing a mo­tion to de­clare Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar per­sona non gra­ta in ac­cor­dance with Ar­ti­cle 111.

Re­ports from Venezuela to­day said a no­tice post­ed on the Na­tion­al As­sem­bly’s web­site in­di­cat­ed that the dis­cus­sion will be­gin at 2.30 pm Venezue­lan time.

The same agen­da in­cludes the sec­ond read­ing of the “Com­man­dos Bill for the In­te­gral De­fence of Venezuela,” a sweep­ing na­tion­al se­cu­ri­ty law that would em­pow­er spe­cial mil­i­tary units amid ris­ing re­gion­al ten­sions.

This lat­est de­vel­op­ment comes a day af­ter Venezue­lan Pres­i­dent Nicolás Maduro an­nounced that Venezuela will sus­pend all en­er­gy ne­go­ti­a­tions with Trinidad and To­ba­go.

Ten­sions be­tween Venezuela and Trinidad and To­ba­go have reached a peak fol­low­ing the ar­rival of the US naval ship USS Grave­ly at the Port of Port-of-Spain on Sun­day. Hours lat­er, Venezuela’s Vice Pres­i­dent Del­cy Ro­dríguez ac­cused the Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar-led Gov­ern­ment of hos­tile provo­ca­tion, claim­ing the ves­sel was part of a US-led plot, sup­port­ed by T&T, to at­tack Venezuela.

The T&T Gov­ern­ment has de­nied the al­le­ga­tion, say­ing the USS Grave­ly ar­rived as part of con­tin­ued train­ing and co­op­er­a­tion ex­er­cis­es with the Unit­ed States.
