Veteran masman and national award winner Lionel Jagessar Snr has passed away.
Jagessar who was the pioneer of South Trinidad's Indian Mas, died this afternoon at his Gransaul Street, San Fernando home.
A relative said his health had deteriorated over the past few days and they had been praying for him.
His sister Cella died last Saturday.
During an interview with Guardian Media last year, Jagessar spoke about the need to revive San Fernando mas.
Jagessar was a recipient of a Humming Bird silver medal award in 1999 and was known internationally as one of the most prolific mas designers in South Trinidad.
Apart from designing mas, Jagessar also taught students from many schools in South Trinidad, the art of wire bending and costume design. His mas camp was always open for school tours.
