One day af­ter po­lice ap­pealed to the pub­lic for help iden­ti­fy­ing two men in­volved in a vi­o­lent con­fronta­tion in Barataria, one of the sus­pects was iden­ti­fied as a 36-year-old em­ploy­ee of the Wa­ter and Sew­er­age Au­thor­i­ty (WASA).

Re­ports in­di­cate that the labour­er was at Nix on the Six Bar along Sixth Av­enue, Barataria, around 5.15 am on Sat­ur­day when he al­leged­ly be­came in­volved in an al­ter­ca­tion with an­oth­er pa­tron.

Po­lice said the WASA em­ploy­ee al­leged­ly stabbed the vic­tim, de­scribed as an African male ap­prox­i­mate­ly six feet tall, with a bro­ken bot­tle.

Video footage of the in­ci­dent cir­cu­lat­ing on so­cial me­dia showed the vic­tim be­ing over­pow­ered and re­peat­ed­ly stabbed in the face be­fore the at­tack­er fled on foot. The WASA em­ploy­ee was lat­er tak­en to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex in Mt Hope by a pass­er-by, where he was treat­ed for mi­nor in­juries.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors re­cov­ered sev­er­al items of ev­i­den­tial val­ue at the scene and, af­ter in­ter­view­ing oth­er pa­trons, launched a search for the sus­pect. Up to yes­ter­day, how­ev­er, he re­mained at large.
