The following is the bulletin issued by the Met Service to 06:00 am, today, covering the period: today until midnight…

TRINIDAD, TOBAGO AND THE WINDWARD ISLANDS

Today will be variably cloudy with intermittent showers and/or periods of rain and a medium to high (40-60%) chance of heavy showers and/or isolated thunderstorms. Conditions are expected to become settled by night-time. Gusty winds, street/flash flooding and agitated seas can be expected in areas under heavy shower/thunderstorms.

Adverse Weather Alert #2 – Yellow Level is in effect until 8:00 pm today, for Trinidad and Tobago and surrounding marine areas.

Conditions on Wednesday evening and overnight were expected to be generally settled apart from a few intervals of showers and the odd thunderstorm. The most intense activity will likely remain offshore at times, however periods of rain and/or showers of varying intensities are still expected, especially from late morning/early afternoon on Thursday, November 24.

There is a medium to high (60 to 70%) chance of heavy showers and thunderstorms that can produce intense rainfall above 25 mm. The land is very saturated, so the risk of street/flash flooding, localized ponding and landslides/landslips will be higher. Gusty winds in excess of 55 km/h may be experienced, especially in the vicinity of heavy showers/thunderstorms.

Instructions:     Do not wade or drive through flood waters. Secure loose outdoor items and livestock. Monitor weather conditions and official updates.

Riverine Flood Alert #3 – Yellow Level is in effect until 8:00 pm today, for the Caroni River Basin and its tributaries and the North Oropouche River.

After Wednesday's rainfall event, river levels along the Caroni and North Oropouche Rivers continued to rise and are currently above 80%, with El Carmen being at a critical level of 93%. Weather conditions were expected to settle during the night; however, occasional intervals of heavy showers were still likely thereafter. This additional rainfall can keep the river levels elevated so there remains a moderate risk to public safety, livelihood and property.

Instructions:     Carefully monitor weather conditions and river/water levels. Monitor updates from official sources and plan safety measures, including emergency supplies of food and water. Do not take unnecessary risks. Follow the instructions of government officials.
