The West In­dies Play­ers’ As­so­ci­a­tion (WIPA) has con­grat­u­lat­ed Crick­et West In­dies (CWI) Vice Pres­i­dent Az­im Bas­sarath and for­mer West In­dies crick­eter Samuel Badree on re­ceiv­ing the Hum­ming­bird Medal, Gold at the 2023 Na­tion­al Awards.

Bas­sarath cur­rent­ly serves as Pres­i­dent of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Crick­et Board (TTCB) and be­came Vice Pres­i­dent of CWI in March 2023, the first ad­min­is­tra­tor from T&T to do so.

Badree is a crick­et com­men­ta­tor, lev­el three coach, men­tor to West In­dies spin­ners, and for­mer WIPA sec­re­tary. He re­cent­ly found­ed and op­er­ates the Badree’s Acad­e­my of Sports Ed­u­ca­tion (BASE) for chil­dren in T&T.

The Hum­ming­bird Medal Gold Award is one of T&T high­est hon­ors, rec­og­niz­ing ex­cep­tion­al con­tri­bu­tions and achieve­ments in var­i­ous fields. It may be award­ed in Gold, Sil­ver or Bronze based on the as­sessed lev­el of the ser­vice ren­dered.

Bas­sarath and Badree re­ceived the award on Re­pub­lic Day for their many years of ex­em­plary ser­vice to the sport of crick­et in T&T.
