The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) has congratulated Cricket West Indies (CWI) Vice President Azim Bassarath and former West Indies cricketer Samuel Badree on receiving the Hummingbird Medal, Gold at the 2023 National Awards.
Bassarath currently serves as President of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) and became Vice President of CWI in March 2023, the first administrator from T&T to do so.
Badree is a cricket commentator, level three coach, mentor to West Indies spinners, and former WIPA secretary. He recently founded and operates the Badree’s Academy of Sports Education (BASE) for children in T&T.
The Hummingbird Medal Gold Award is one of T&T highest honors, recognizing exceptional contributions and achievements in various fields. It may be awarded in Gold, Silver or Bronze based on the assessed level of the service rendered.
Bassarath and Badree received the award on Republic Day for their many years of exemplary service to the sport of cricket in T&T.
