West In­di­an To­bac­co Com­pa­ny (WIT­CO) has reaf­firmed its com­mit­ment to de­vel­op­ing young pro­fes­sion­als through its 2026 A.I.M. (Ac­cel­er­ate, In­no­vate, Mo­ti­vate) In­tern­ship Pro­gramme.

The pro­gramme, which re­cent­ly con­clud­ed, pro­vid­ed six sec­ond and third-year uni­ver­si­ty stu­dents with hands-on ex­pe­ri­ence across var­i­ous ar­eas of the com­pa­ny’s op­er­a­tions.

Over the course of the in­tern­ship, the stu­dents par­tic­i­pat­ed in struc­tured train­ing ses­sions, pro­fes­sion­al de­vel­op­ment work­shops, lead­er­ship en­gage­ments and re­al-world busi­ness projects.

WIT­CO said the pro­gramme was de­signed to strength­en the in­terns’ tech­ni­cal, pro­fes­sion­al and in­ter­per­son­al skills while ex­pos­ing them to the de­mands and op­por­tu­ni­ties of the cor­po­rate en­vi­ron­ment.

The in­terns were al­so giv­en op­por­tu­ni­ties to con­tribute to busi­ness projects, al­low­ing them to ap­ply their aca­d­e­m­ic knowl­edge to prac­ti­cal work­place chal­lenges.

Ac­cord­ing to the com­pa­ny, the pro­gramme en­cour­aged in­no­va­tion, col­lab­o­ra­tion and crit­i­cal think­ing while pro­vid­ing par­tic­i­pants with mean­ing­ful ex­po­sure to the work­place.

WIT­CO said the A.I.M. In­tern­ship Pro­gramme forms part of its broad­er tal­ent de­vel­op­ment strat­e­gy and is aimed at sup­port­ing youth em­ploy­a­bil­i­ty and pro­fes­sion­al de­vel­op­ment in Trinidad and To­ba­go.

The com­pa­ny said the 2026 co­hort made sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tions dur­ing their time with the or­gan­i­sa­tion, with sev­er­al in­terns sub­se­quent­ly be­ing of­fered op­por­tu­ni­ties to con­tin­ue their pro­fes­sion­al jour­ney with WIT­CO.

The com­pa­ny views the pro­gramme as an in­vest­ment not on­ly in its fu­ture work­force but al­so in the wider de­vel­op­ment of young pro­fes­sion­als.

With a his­to­ry span­ning more than 120 years, WIT­CO said it re­mains com­mit­ted to cre­at­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties for young peo­ple to de­vel­op crit­i­cal skills and gain ex­pe­ri­ence that can pre­pare them for lead­er­ship roles.

The com­pa­ny said ini­tia­tives such as A.I.M. are in­tend­ed to help em­pow­er the next gen­er­a­tion of pro­fes­sion­als while con­tribut­ing to the con­tin­ued growth and de­vel­op­ment of Trinidad and To­ba­go.

The 2026 pro­gramme builds on WIT­CO’s on­go­ing ef­forts to pro­vide uni­ver­si­ty stu­dents with prac­ti­cal ex­pe­ri­ence and ex­po­sure to a pro­fes­sion­al en­vi­ron­ment be­fore they en­ter the work­force full-time.
