An 18-year-old woman was killed outside her home in Macoya on Thursday night.
According to a police report, at about 10.30 pm Mariah Neptune was standing in the yard of her home at Macoya Settlement when two men walked up. Police said they both opened fire and Neptune was shot several times in the chest.
Neptune was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where she died while undergoing treatment.
Police are yet to determine a motive for her murder that has been recorded as the 59th for the year.
Neptune was one of three people killed Thursday night during five separate shooting incidents within a period of two hours in North, Central and South Trinidad.
In the first incident at about 9.30 pm, Curtis Mc Kenzie was shot several times about his body by a gunman while at Picadilly Street. He was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Fifteen minutes afterwards in Rousillac, police said a man walked into Unity Bar, ordered a bottle of rum from owner Ralph Rajkumar, 56, then opened fire on him in front of the man’s wife Camille. Rajkumar was hit in the head and chest. His wife screamed for help as the gunman ran out, got on a bicycle and rode off.
A video surfaced on social media minutes later showing Rajkumar’s wife screaming as she tried to wake him up after calling neighbours for help. Rajkumar later died while undergoing emergency surgery at the San Fernando General Hospital.
Police are investigating all three murders.
