A young woman employed with Rhand Credit Union was attacked and beaten yesterday by a homeless man in Port-of-Spain.

According to a police report, around 11 am yesterday the 22-year-old woman had just left her place of work on Abercromby Street when she was attacked with a PVC pipe by a barebacked homeless man, who was only wearing khaki pants.

Wielding the pipe, the man dealt the young woman multiple blows about the body.

The woman says she contacted her boyfriend after the incident, who then contacted the police.

A party of officers assigned to the Central Police Station and Capital City Patrol unit responded and interviewed the young woman, however, she did not want to press charges and instead left to seek medical attention.

Officers searched for the homeless man, based on the description given, but were unable to locate him.

Sargeant Rampersad is continuing the investigation.
