A 20-year-old woman is be­ing treat­ed at the San­gre Grande Hos­pi­tal, af­ter she was doused with muri­at­ic acid in an at­tack in Rio Claro on Mon­day.

Po­lice said around 3.55 pm, the woman was stand­ing near Sco­tia­bank in Rio Claro when a man wear­ing a green CEPEP top ap­proached her. He threw a liq­uid on­to her face, caus­ing in­tense burn­ing to her eyes, face, and lips. She ran from the scene and was as­sist­ed by a passer­by, who took her to a near­by health fa­cil­i­ty. The Ec­clesville, Rio Claro res­i­dent was then trans­ferred to hos­pi­tal for fur­ther treat­ment.

Po­lice re­cov­ered a bot­tle con­tain­ing muri­at­ic acid near the bank.
