A 40-year-old El Socorro woman who was originally reported as having been abducted is at home and in good health, a senior officer in the Port of Spain Division confirmed on Friday.
Police said the incident was originally reported as a kidnapping by police, but further enquiries revealed that the circumstances behind the attack were different than what was compiled in the first police report.
According to police, the woman and a male relative were driven to an undisclosed location on the Beetham Gardens at around 10.30 pm on Thursday, by one of the relative’s co-workers.
No information was included as to why they were in the Beetham Gardens.
The report went on to state that a group of men approached the car and pulled the woman and her relative from the vehicle.
The relative was beaten, but escaped the attackers and returned to the area with officers of the Besson Street Police Station, but could not find the woman.
However, senior police confirmed the woman was at home and “resting comfortably.”
The officer, who did not divulge any further information, said the circumstances behind the incident were “very different” than what was originally believed to have happened, but maintained that it was not a false report, as the information taken by police may have been done inaccurately.
