A woman with dual citizenship (Venezuela and T&T) was shot and wounded during a home invasion and robbery at her home in Arima, last evening.
The victim has been identified as Andreina Briceño Brown, director of the Arima Hispanic Cultural Centre (HCC).
Her partner, a 56-year-old man of #59 Tumpuna Gardens in Arima, was robbed of a gold chain valued at TT$14,000 and a Samsung J4 cell phone valued $1,000.
According to a police report, at about 7:30 pm on Monday, both victims had just returned home, having gone to a supermarket at Cocorite Road in Arima, when they were accosted by three men, one of whom was armed with a firearm.
Police said the male victim was relieved of his personal belongings while both he and his partner were made to lie on the floor.
After robbing the man, the armed thief shot the woman in the left shoulder.
The suspects then escaped in a waiting vehicle by proceeding west along Tumpuna Gardens, Arima.
The woman was taken to the Arima Hospital by her partner, where she given medical attention.
She is said to be in a stable condition at hospital.
Andreina Briceño Brown was born in Maracaibo, Zulia State, Venezuela. A married mother of three, she has been living in Trinidad for 20 years. She is a parishioner of Santa Rosa, Arima. As Director of the Arima Hispanic Cultural Centre (HCC), she is involved in the parish ministry for migrants and refugees.
